A practical digital marketing plan for a local business

Updated: Oct 21
Connect your website, local search and social content around one service, a useful customer journey and measurable enquiries.

Choose one commercial priority
Start with a service you want to sell and the customers you can realistically serve. A Reigate business might focus on a particular service across Reigate, Redhill and Dorking, rather than try to reach everyone. Define what a useful enquiry looks like before deciding which channels to use.
Give the campaign a useful destination
Link to a page that explains the relevant service, coverage, examples and next step. A social post about a specific service should not force visitors to search the homepage for details. Check the destination on a phone and test its contact route before sharing it.
Build a connected local presence
Keep your business name, contact details and service information accurate across your website and public profiles. Use your own project photographs and attributed client feedback where permission allows. Choose a manageable social channel based on where your customers spend time; activity matters only if it reaches suitable people.
Measure actions, not just reach
Use labelled campaign links to distinguish referrals. Review website enquiries, relevant search clicks and the questions people ask when they contact you. Compare stated time periods and account for seasonality or other changes. Views and follower counts can provide context, but they are not the same as qualified enquiries.
Review and improve one thing at a time
If people visit but do not contact you, review the page and enquiry journey. If the page receives little relevant traffic, review distribution and search visibility. TW Web Design can coordinate service content, local SEO and business photography within an agreed brief.
